Jeffery "Jeff" John Banas, 56, of Terryville passed away on November 9, 2011 at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut after a sudden illness. Jeff was born on September 23, 1955 in Torrington to the late Leo and Irene (Markowski) Banas. He was educated in Terryville schools and graduated from Tunxis Community College with a degree in nursing. He practiced as an RN for 35 years. He was employed by Personalized Home Care and also worked for various other nursing agencies in the area.
He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ormond by the Sea. He was a radio announcer for WRTC and WRYM for many years. He co-hosted, with the late John Jeski, the WRYM Polka Party live radio show every Sunday from the Polish National Home in Hartford for 25 years. Jeff was very involved in Polish music and, being a talented trumpet player, was known to join in with the bands and play his trumpet. He was a member of the Recording Academy and attended the Annual Grammy Awards for more than 20 years. He traveled the world for many years and developed a special fondness for Florida, where he hoped to spend more time in the future.
To his family members and closest friends, Jeff was loyal and committed and always there when he was needed. His sense of humor and quick wit were of comedian quality. He lived every day to its fullest and he loved life. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and patients.
Jeffrey is survived by his beloved brother Leon (Tom) Banas and wife Paula of Bristol, a sister, Sandra Dean of Polk City, FL, and several cousins, nephews and a niece.
The family would like to thank Jeff's many friends and colleagues who reached out in support during this difficult time and to Dr. Chaisson, Dr. Tahir, and the nursing staff at Griffin Hospital ICU for their professionalism and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday (Nov. 17, 2011) 9:00AM at St. Casimir Church, Terryville. Relatives and friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00PM.

I was shocked and saddened to read of Jeff's passing. He was a great customer in the past. I had not seen Jeff since 2007 but some customers you just do not forget. He was such a nice guy. In dealing with the public you run across few like him, so I always looked forward to seeing him. My prayers go out to his friends and family, and again, I am so sorry.
