William D. MacDermid, Jr. (Bill) 85, of Plymouth, husband of the late Adeline (Wentland) MacDermid died Wednesday Sept. 10, 2014 at home.
Bill was born Dec. 2, 1928 in Hartford, CT., son of the late W. Douglas (Doug) MacDermid, Sr. and Laura (Richmond) MacDermid. He graduated from Thomaston High, attended the New York Military Academy. Bill was Plant Manager for MacDermid of Bristol for 25 years, managed MacDermid's plant in Santa Fe Springs, CA for a couple of years with his wife Addie by his side and was also an employee of Liquicon of Thomaston. He served as Zoning Enforcement officer for the Town of Plymouth before retiring. He was a member of Mason's Lodge #11 in Litchfield, CT and was a member of St Peter's Trinity Episcopal Church, Thomaston.
Bill had a pilot's license and previously owned and operated a Cessna, he enjoyed scuba diving and motorcycling, he particularly enjoyed researching and visiting historical sites, and traveled to many states and countries with a goal to visit and camp at all the National Parks. Bill was a member of Bristol Fish and Game and enjoyed skeet shooting, he was an avid runner and swimmer and participated and placed in the senior division of many 5k's. He loved the outdoors. He actively supported Fidelco Guide Dog organization including raising puppies and enjoying raising Charka, a Golden, as their own. He actively supported the Republican Town committee and candidates' campaigns and loved to host family gatherings, enjoyed barbecues and pool parties and designed challenging home croquet courses for his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his sister and her husband Patricia and Don Brooks, sister-in-law Marie Mac Dermid and several nieces and nephews and cousins. His wife of over 50 years, Adeline, and brother John T. Mac Dermid pre-deceased him.
The family is grateful for the loving care of all his aides this past year.
A memorial service will be held Friday Sept. 19, 2014 at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville at 11:30AM. Burial will be in West Cemetery, Plymouth at the convenience of the family.
