Zachary Lyga Obituary

Zachary “Zack” Lyga, 68, of Terryville, beloved husband of Susan (Agli) Lyga passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Hartford Hospital with his wife by his side.

Zack was born on March 1, 1957 in Torrington, CT, son of the late Marion (Ristow) Lyga and Harold Zachary Lyga. Zack and his wife, Sue, shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful family and a home filled with joy. He was the proud and devoted father of his two daughters, Lauren and Margo, and the adoring grandfather of Tesla and Maverick, with two more precious grandchildren on the way. He also considered his sons-in-law, Nick and James, his own sons — a reflection of the love and closeness they shared. Zack’s love for his family was boundless, and he never missed an opportunity to remind them just how blessed they are.

A true original, Zack was a man like no other — full of life, humor, and heart. Known for his quick wit and his signature sayings, he had a funny remark for every occasion and a way of making everyone around him smile. He was the kind of person whose presence lit up a room, whose laughter was contagious, and whose wisdom was shared with love.

Zack had a passion for the simple joys in life. He found peace and happiness casting a line while fishing in the Florida Keys, volunteering tirelessly at the Terryville Lions Country Fair, and spending time with his friends at the Terryville Polish Club and serving as their Santa Claus every December. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family at their beloved cottage on Lake Harwinton — a place he helped his father build and where so many cherished memories were made. Whether it was a quiet afternoon by the water, cheeseburger Fridays or a lively gathering of loved ones, the cottage was a true reflection of his love for family, friends and the outdoors.

Zack was a man of great character and accomplishment. He was proud to be an Eagle Scout, a reflection of his lifelong commitment to service. He graduated from Bryant University, where he laid the foundation for his successful career and lifelong friendships.

Above all, Zack was most proud of his family. His girls, his sons-in-law, and his grandkids were the light of his life, and his love for them was unwavering. He taught them the importance of laughter, hard work and gratitude, and his memory will live on in the lessons he shared and the love he gave.

Zack was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though our hearts ache with his loss, we find comfort in the countless beautiful memories he leaves behind. His spirit, humor, and love will remain with us always.

Besides his loving wife Susan, of 43 years, Zack leaves behind his daughters, Lauren McCool and her husband Nicholas of Burlington, CT and Margo Alfonso and her husband James of Scarsdale, NY, grandchildren Tesla and Maverick, sisters Arlene (Robert) Ryan of Terryville, Deborah (Leonard) Lyga-Budney of Old Saybrook, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
