Wayne E. Hotchkiss, Sr., 76, of Plymouth, husband of Ellen (Armbruster) Hotchkiss, beloved dad, grandfather, brother, friend to many and a fighter, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at Smillow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born February 6, 1947, son of the late Sidney S. and Thelma (Ames) Hotchkiss.
Wayne was the husband to his wonderful wife Ellen for 55 years. Together, they raised their two amazing children Wayne Jr (Linda) and Dawn Manzi (Michael). They were blessed with 5 grandchildren who made life even better - Trevor, Michaela, Brett, Hailey and Mikey. He also leaves behind his brother George H. (Karen) Hotchkiss, his twin sister Jayne D. Hotchkiss, his sister-in-law Winny Acker, and sister-in-law Donna Bryan Hotchkiss. Wayne was predeceased by his brothers Sidney R. Hotchkiss and Leman F. Hotchkiss.
He worked for O&G as a truck driver for over 20 years. Upon retiring he began living a life we all strive for - surrounded by immediate family, chosen family, and cherished friends. His smile was infectious, and his laughter made everyone join along. Wayne loved nothing more than his family and beamed when talking about each of them. He could often be found working on his pickup or on his John Deere tractor making sure his lawn was the most pristine in the neighborhood. Friends would often gather, to simply sit, chat, and reminisce about the good ole days and just be friends. Wayne fought a courageous battle with cancer for 3 years. He was a fighter like no other and never gave cancer the power. He continued to smile, laugh and be thankful for each moment with those he loved.
We would like to take a moment to thank the staff of the Smillow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital, especially Dr. Podoltsev and his staff for the wonderful care.
