Thomas C. Konopka of Terryville, 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family May 15, 2026, at Hartford Hospital. Thomas was born December 23, 1946, in New Britain, the son of the late Frances (Rudzinski) Konopka and Chester Konopka. Thomas graduated from Terryville High School and enrolled in technical studies to enhance his knowledge. Tom worked for General Motors for 35 years where he met and still had good friends that kept in touch for years to follow until General Motors moved to Ohio at which time he then gained employment with Stanley Black and Decker and then moved on to Lux Bond and Green from which he retired and started to enjoy more of his love for hunting, Corvettes, the casino and his “Harley”. He loved hunting and traveled the USA and Canada with his brother Mike and son Matt bringing home his memories that were hung around the house. In addition to hunting, Tom loved his cars, especially corvettes. As his son Matt got older, Tom got Matt to have the same desire for the Corvette and they would travel to many cars shows, especially to Carlisle, PA. Tom also enjoyed going to the casino where he would pick a comfortable seat and play along. Tom’s 4th love for part of his life was the “Harley”. He loved to travel the back roads of Connecticut with the many same Harley riders that he would meet along the way until one day, after he married Fran, he tried to ride again and found out he had better just keep the memories he had gotten through his riding days. When he would have company, he would sit and chit chat and always have a joke or two and loved to reminisce and share stories.
Tom is survived by his wife Frances (Orsini) Konopka, step son Philip Batick and his wife May of North Carolina, brother Michael Konopka and friend Sandy of Bristol, son Matthew Lamarre and his wife Cindy of Bristol, brother-in-law’s David Sekorski and Anthony Orsini and his wife Barbara of Terryville. Tom also leaves his 3 grandchildren, Madison, Carter, and Hudson, nieces and nephews, Lauren and her husband Darren and their children Alexa and Brandon of Somers, Douglas, Kaitlyn, Charlotte, Eli of Terryville, Chad of Torrington, Janet and her husband Jose of Winchester, Cambria, Beckham, Merrick, Amira and Max. He also had close cousins that he kept in touch with on a regular basis, Dale of East Hartford and Gale of Manchester, John of Manchester and Judith of Florida. Tom also leaves his best friends Mike and JoJo Costardo who reside in Berlin, CT who he considered part of his close family.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to have donations made in his memory to St. Judes and Disabled American Veterans.
