Susan “Sue” Alice (DiAngelis) Owens, beloved mom, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her home. Sue was born March 6, 1977, in Waterbury, to Julia (Sanders) DiAngelis and the late Peter DiAngelis.
She graduated from Watertown High School and went on to receive her LMSW in social work. She was employed by Elara Caring for many years, working as a clinician and eventually as director of the social work department.
Sue was a faithful Christian, and a member of the First Congregational Church of Thomaston. She was the most kind, compassionate, and selfless person, and was always thinking of and dedicated to helping others in any capacity. These traits also contributed to her work as a social worker and as a volunteer with the Booster Club, food pantry, and her church, especially in the nursery. Sue’s loving spirit touched everyone, but was never more evident than with her children, whom she adored.
The beach and family vacations at Cape Cod were among Sue’s favorites things, along with bingo, movies, animals (especially cows), and babies. She was also known for her love of entertaining, baking, any combination of chocolate and peanut butter, and, of course, spending time with her friends and family.
Sue is survived by her mother, Julia DiAngelis of Watertown; her children, Desiree Owens and her fiancée, Justin of Manchester, and Avery Owens, Kaleb Owens, and Kylie Owens of Terryville; her former husband, David Owens of Terryville; her brothers, Keith DiAngelis and his wife Rhonda of Prospect, Michael DiAngelis and his wife Stacy of Montana, Scott DiAngelis and his partner Barbara of Harwinton; her sisters, Lisa Hulton of Thomaston, and Beth Roberts and her partner Gary of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to all of Sue’s caregivers from HHC Independence at Home; Dr Rasool, the palliative care team, and her nurses at the Hospital of Central Connecticut; Dr. Hosmer, her oncologist; and the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County, especially Kara.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston, 135 Main St., Thomaston. Family and friends may visit at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville, on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
