Stephen W. Kozikowski

Stephen W. Kozikowski, 90, of Terryville, husband of Susan (Greatrex) Kozikowski, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in the comfort of his home. He was born on March 21, 1932, in Terryville, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Cybulski) Kozikowski.

Stephen proudly served his country in the US Airforce. He was an Airman First Class with the Radio Communications Squadron stationed at Sculthorpe Air Force Base in Norfolk, England from 1955-59, where he met his wife. Stephen and Susan were married for 62 years. They made several trips back to England, and visited Spain, Portugal, and Ireland over the years. Stephen and Susan took trips with their many friends around the States and always enjoyed the company of “The Gang”.

Stephen was the owner/operator of S&R Fuel Oil Co. in Terryville for 40 years. He was an avid Ham Radio operator and was often found having conversations with other operators local and far. He loved to build and fly R/C model airplanes and spent many hours perfecting the craft. He was an active member of the Balsa Bandits and Nutmeg Flyers, regularly spending many sunny days flying his airplanes at the Thomaston Flying Field, Farmington Flats, or his personal, perfectly manicured, flying strip. He also attended countless air shows and visited several air museums. Throughout his younger years, Stephen enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was an active Grandad, always imparting new knowledge and wisdom on his grandchildren, and loved spending time with his family.

Stephen is survived by his sons, Lee Kozikowski and his wife Melissa of NC, and Robert Kozikowski and his wife Bozena of Terryville; his daughter Lori Kozikowski Brown of NC; his grandchildren Kelsey, Caitlyn, and Lindy Kozikowski and Stephen, Colby and Caylee Brown; as well as several nieces and nephews. Stephen was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Joseph Jr., Stella, Ida, Edward, John, Benjamin, Richard Kozikowski, Irene Markwica, and Louise Grela.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St., at 12 PM. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Terryville.
