On Friday, July 26, 2024, Rosemary Wold, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her daughter, at the age of 73.
Rose was born on July 19, 1951, in Bristol, CT to the late Michael and Rose (Wall) O’Donnell. She lived in Terryville for most of her life where she worked as a waitress at multiple restaurants over the years. On May 20, 2000, she married Jeffrey Wold, who preceded her in death in 2011.
Over the years, she made countless friends. Rose loved being around people. She looked forward to meeting her friends for breakfast, to shop or to just be in their company with good conversation. Just like her mother, she loved Bingo. She loved traveling with her family and would be happy just to “come along for the ride” just so she could be with them. After retirement, Rose enjoyed volunteering. She volunteered at the American Clock and Watch Museum. She loved working at Mountain View Elementary School as a mentor. She made such a difference in the lives of so many children. She was known to all students and staff as Grandma Rose.
Rose is survived by her daughter and best friend, Becky Sowa and her husband Brian who Rose considered “the best son in law in the whole world”. She leaves four brothers and sisters in law. Tim and Mary O’Donnell, Bob and Deb O’Donnell, Bernie and Cindy O’Donnell all of Bristol, and Rit and Karen O’Donnell of Torrington. She also leaves her “Special Girl”, her granddaughter Charlotte Sowa who was her entire world. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Sometimes you do not have to be related by blood to be considered family. She always held a special place in her heart for so many. Her stepdaughters Kim Grindle and Kelly Rushing and their families, her first husband Rich Swasey with whom she continued a beautiful friendship over the years. She leaves Becky’s brother and sister-in-law Rich Swasey Jr and Nicole Amato and their beautiful boys, Nathan, Max and Nolan Swasey, who she considered her own children and grandchildren. A special thank you to Rose’s nurse, Allison Carroll, whose love, kindness and compassion got her through some challenging times over the years.
Memorial donations in Rose’s name can be made to Donate Life Connecticut, PO Box 304, Andover, CT 06232.
Calling hours will be held at Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main Street, Terryville, CT on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 10:00 – 12:00 with a memorial service at 12. Burial will be private at a later date. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
