Roland Anderson Obituary

Roland A. Anderson, 96, of Terryville, Korean War Army veteran, family man, and husband of Ellen (Hosford) Anderson, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was born September 8, 1928, in New Milford, CT, son of the late Harry A. and Ellen (Carlson) Anderson.

He moved to Terryville in 1941, right next door to his future wife. He and Ellen married in October of 1952, celebrating over 70 years together.

After his discharge from the Army, Roland learned the printing trade under the G.I. bill. He worked at Hildreth Press in Bristol for 30 years until the plant closed. He continued to work in printing, in Trumbull, CT, until 1983. Roland retired in 1994 from the Plymouth B.O.E. as custodian. He was involved in the Plymouth Food Pantry for over 20 years. Roland joined the Terryville Congregational Church in 1945 and served in all committees and was a church collector for 15 years. Roland was a member of the church for 79 years, and a member of the American Legion for 70 years.

Besides his beloved wife, Ellen, Roland leaves behind his sons, Adrian Anderson and his wife Dixie, Lee Anderson and his wife Paula, and Jeff Anderson and his wife Lisa; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Sherry, and his 3 siblings, Richard and Norman Anderson and Irene Grela.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, 11AM at the Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St, Terryville, with military honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terryville Congregational Church Book of Remembrance.
