Roger H. Norton 82 of Thomaston, formerly of Terryville, died peacefully on August 5, 2023. Roger was the son of the late Herbert and Mary (Wothman) Norton of Terryville, husband of 59 years to Barbara (Puzacke) Norton, father to Kevin R. Norton, daughter-in-law Carolyn Norton, and proud and loving grandfather to Cameron and Colby Norton. Roger also leaves brother in-laws Michael and late Larry Puzacke, nephews Kyle, Charlie, Jordan and Jason and nieces Tara and Meagan.
Roger was a graduate of Terryville High School and attended Central Connecticut State University. He served as a Town of Plymouth Police Officer and Sergeant for 27 years and was a U.S. Postal carrier for 30 years. After retirement, Roger served as a Police Commissioner for the Town of Plymouth and enjoyed being a member of the Torrington Elks and Son's of the American Legion. In the late 60's, Roger initiated a "youth canteen" on Friday nights for local teens at the Terryville Town Hall sponsored by the YMCA.
Roger loved spending time with family, friends and especially adored his grandsons where he could always be seen on the bleachers and sidelines cheering them on and shared in all their accomplishments. He loved spending time outdoors maintaining a perfectly manicured yard, clearing paths from the snow and daily walks in the neighborhood when he chatted with neighbors. Roger always looked forward to annual road trips with his friends and celebrating holidays and birthday with family.
Roger was an avid UConn Huskies basketball fan and cheered on his beloved Red Sox. He will be missed by his family and many friends who loved him so very much. Rogers family would like to thank the staff at Arden Courts and Brighton Hospice of Farmington for providing exceptional care and comfort during his last few months of battling dementia.
Calling hours will be held at Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St, Terryville on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 9:00am-11:00am, prayer and eulogy service immediately following at the funeral home. Burial at St. Thomas Cemetery, Thomaston. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
