On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, Richard M. Lyga, was called home by the Lord, to join his wife, Patti. Richie, 80, recently of Farmington and formerly of Terryville, was born on February 4, 1942 in Bristol, Connecticut, the first of six children to Daniel J. and Julia (Sawoska} Lyga, deceased.
While attending Terryville High School, Richie met and later married, Patricia L. Finkenzeller, his wife of 61 years. After graduation, Richie entered the Army National Guard. He later owned and operated R & L Paving and WRL Contractors, Inc., both located in Terryville. After years of working construction, he was employed as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, eventually becoming a supervisor. He enjoyed being outdoors working on his yard, walking through the woods, or fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing any type of competitive sport. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan.
Richie raised two daughters, Brenda L. Antuna, of Bristol and Lori A. Lyga of Tarzana, California. He always found time to spend with his girls; either teaching them how to play baseball, set back, or how to fish. He shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Brittany L. Antuna of Los Angeles, California, and they spent countless hours together exploring the woods surrounding his home.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in law Peter Lyga and his wife, Barbara, of Bristol; his sister Theresa A. Pelletier, and his nephew Curt Pelletier, also of Bristol; his brothers, Philip Lyga and Mark Lyga, both of Terryville; his brother and sister-in law, Daniel J. Lyga and his wife Karen, of Bristol; their children, his nephew Matthew Lyga and his wife Glendina, of Bristol; and his niece Kathryn Lyga and her fiancée Matthew Semplice of Bristol. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Ann Christine “Christy” Borelli of Terryville, and his niece and nephew-in-law Sue Ann Fador, and her husband Todd, of Terryville; along with his childhood friend, Casey Kosak.
