Reinhard Luther (“Ron”), 88, of Terryville passed away peacefully at Sheridan Woods on Sunday November 13th, 2022.  Born October 8th, 1934, in Germany, he was the son of the late Robert Luther and Wanda (Radune) Fenske. Ron is survived by his wife of 67 years, Theresa Castiola Luther of Terryville, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Deborah Luther of Terryville, and loving grandchildren: Brent and Alyssa Wargo of Bristol, Rachel Wargo and Nick Duffy of Collinsville, Heather Luther Facciolo and Sean Facciolo of New Hartford, Stephen Luther and Angelica Slyz of Terryville, Troy Carlson and Elizabet Homola of Beacon Falls, and Noah Carlson of Terryville. Ron is also survived by his sisters Herta Witt of Plainville and Leni Mittlestadt of California, brother and sister-in-law Armin and Crystal Luther, brother Manfred Luther both of California, and many loved nieces and nephews. Ron was pre-deceased by his daughter Wendy Luther Wargo and daughter-in-law Brenda Murdock Luther, both of Terryville. Also previously departed were brother-in-law’s Arnold Witt of Plainville, Herbert Mittelstadt of California, Jack Castiola of Terryville, Edward Castiola of Southington, and sister-in-law Joanne Luther of California.

Ron was born in Germany but left Germany for America at 15 years of age for a better future. In that future he met his wife of 67 years at a party in a basement on a couch as the story has been told, they married shortly thereafter. Ron and Terry helped to bring his mother and four siblings to Connecticut from Germany. Shortly after his family arrived from Germany, Ron was drafted into the US Army where they sent him back to Germany, Tess as he referred to his wife followed him to Germany where they experienced newlywed life in the Army, living off base with the German people. Upon their return from Germany to the states, Ron and Terry started a family with son Rob and daughter Wendy. Ron worked in the manufacturing business, eventually going into business with James Hasler of Bristol for many enjoyable years. Ron and Terry were often spotted at the Terryville Little League and soccer fields, as they took on raising their two grandchildren Brent and Rachel. They especially appreciated the community and support of Terryville families and made many new friends and relationships there. Ron was very active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, holding many offices throughout the years. Ron volunteered at the Terryville Lock Museum and enjoyed meeting both residents and out-of-towners there. Ron enjoyed his bowling in the local Bristol league where he enjoyed many friendships. He was an avid golfer and was proud of his two hole-in-ones, especially when playful boasting was at hand by his grandsons and friends who were always up for the challenge of trying to beat him.
