Lois Douyard Obituary

Lois Nellie Ruquist Douyard was born on December 9, 1929 in Bristol CT. She died on April 4, 2025 in Avon CT. She was 95.

Lois is predeceased by her parents, Sven and Nellie Pitts Ruquist, brothers Norman and Thomas, her husband Raymond A Douyard and a son Jay. She is survived by her brother Clifford Ruquist and her children: Mark (Barbara Bayers) of Smyrna DE, David (Lisa) of New Hartford, Beth of Thomaston, Michael (Andrea) of Middlebury; grandchildren: Christopher Douyard (Christa), Jonathan Douyard (Sarah), Jessica Douyard (John Souchet), Jacqueline Douyard (Carlos Aponte), Reya Worley, Sarah M. Douyard and Emily Douyard, and great-grandchildren: Elliott, Tyler, Lennox, Nora and Donovan as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lois grew up in the Forestville section of Bristol where she made and maintained many life-long friends. Lois saw her role in life as wife and mother, everything else followed from that core belief. She loved to bake and entertain. The door to her kitchen was always open and everyone was welcome. She optimized “love your neighbor.”

Lois retired from the Bristol Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union in 1992. Along with Ray she joined the Terryville Congregational Church in 1955 and was an active member until she moved to Avon 5 years ago. If there was an event at the church Lois was always there behind the scenes helping to make things happen.

She spent many years creating wonderful cross-stitch works, many of which were given away, and many of which hang or sit somewhere within the family domains. She was an avid bowler, participating in the Good Times Bowling League for much of her time in Terryville.

Lois maintained her competitive spirit until the end. Those who knew Lois, knew that you played games to win and she loved the competition of cards, croquet, beanbag and any other game she got involved in. Her favorite line at the card table was “come on, baby, be there!” She was a devoted Red Sox fan and was overjoyed when the Sox finally broke the “curse” and won the World Series in 2004.

Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a genuinely kind and loving person; was a friend to all, and always had a winning smile, quick wit and a ready laugh.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, 11AM, at the Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St, Terryville. Burial will be private in West Cemetery, Bristol.
