Lila Mae (Carpenter) Cahill, 93, of Bristol, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at The Jefferson House in Newington. She was born May 2, 1933, in Lakeville, CT, daughter of the late Joel E. Sr. and Marguerite (Speed) Carpenter.
Lila had been a loving stay-at-home mom until 1975, when she joined the workforce at The Hartford. She then went to work for Scasco Oil and then returned to work for The Hartford until her retirement. Lila was a former member of The Burlington Congregational Church, serving on many committees, was a member of their choir, serving as music director. She joined the Terryville Congregational Church in 2022 and continued to be very active in their choir. In her downtime, Lila enjoyed knitting, gardening, traveling, singing karaoke and dancing with her sisters, especially when listening to her son play in his band, The Chaparrals. Lila truly loved to bake, have family get-togethers, and be the biggest supporter of all of her grandchildren; always going to every practice, game, concert, and recital. She was an avid Red Sox fan, even bringing the grandkids to a game or two over the years.
Lila leaves a beautiful family behind to cherish her memory; her sons, Brad Cahill and his wife Leigh of Barkhamsted and Steven Cahill and his wife Carol of Bristol; her daughters, Diana Gurka of Clinton, SC, Sally Cahill of Bristol, and Carolyn Lindblom of Bristol; her son-in-law Paul Haynes of Anderson, SC; her sister Connie Richter-Hess of Poughkeepsie, NY; her grandchildren, Amy Lott, Jason Gurka, Christine (Brian) Martin, Michael (Sabrina) Cormier, Kaitlin (Dwight) Hacker, Christopher (Kelly) Cahill, Trevor (Rebecca) Cahill, Michael Lindblom, Stephanie Lindblom, Krystal Perrotti and Matthew Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Trey Lott, Jordynn Lott, Dominic (Haley Futo) Martin, Joshua Martin, Brayden Martin, Mia Cormier, Michael Cormier, Gabriel Hacker, Payton Coppedge, Coltan Cahill, Mckayli Cahill, and Lila Cahill (her namesake); and a great-great grandchild on the way, due to arrive in November. Besides her parents, Lila was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Haynes, her siblings, Joel E. Carpenter Jr, Evelyn McLane, Eleanor Cahill and Shirley Carpenter, and her grandson-in-law, Billy Perrotti.
