Katharine Carol (Kaye) Smith

Katharine Carol (Kaye) Smith, 76, of Harwinton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at home. She was born January 10, 1947, in Southington, the daughter of the late Doanld P. and Nancy (Forrest) Kaye.

She graduated from UCONN with a Bachelor’s degree in Developmental Psychology. Prior to her retirement, Katharine was employed by The Superior Electric Company in Bristol, CT and The Mott Corporation in Farmington, CT. She was very hard working and one of the strongest women many had the chance to know. She spoke of her greatest accomplishment as being the raising of three children as a single mom. In her later years, Katharine relished being a grandmother, and enjoyed traveling with her daughter. She is remembered for her love of animals and great sense of humor. She enjoyed playing board games with friends and family, had an immense love of music, and was a talented drummer.

Katharine is survived by her children, Justin Decarolis and his wife Elise (Thayer) of Harwinton, Darin Decarolis of New Hartford, and Kolleen Callaghan and Keith Burinskas of Niantic. Her grandchildren, Connor, Berkeley, Anabelle, Molly, Casey, and Nicholas will miss her dearly. Other extended family members include Georgia, Yota, and many grand nieces and nephews in Florida. Besides her parents, Katharine was predeceased by her brother Donald “Skipper” Kaye. The family would like to thank the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Forestville, for their compassion and kindness throughout her treatments.
