John A. Yacawych, 92, of Burlington, husband of Shirley (Fahie) Yacawych, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at home. He was born September 7, 1931, in Bristol, son of the late Alexander and Rose (Sinowa) Yacawych.
John proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 62 years as an honorary member of the Carpenters Union, Local 326 in Hartford. John was a life member of the Bristol Fish & Game and the VFW Post 296 in Winsted. John was a true patriot, a proud grandpa and an avid hunter and fisherman.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Yacawych of Burlington; his sons, John Thomas Yacawych and his wife Rose of Barkhamstead, Thomas William Yacawych and his wife Holly of Northfield, VT, and Wayne Alex Yacawych of Terryville; his grandson Warren Yacawych, who is pursuing his Ph. D in Physiology at the University of Michigan; and his granddaughter Alexa Yacawych, who is attending the US Naval Academy, pursuing a path to be commissioned as a US Marine Corps. Officer. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Michael, Bill and Metro Yacawych, and sisters, Mary Himchak, Millie Mielniczak, and Julia Kloznick.
Family and friends may visit the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St, Terryville, Friday, October 13, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, with a service at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be at Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
