John R. Layton

John R. Layton, age 86 passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023. A lifelong resident of Terryville, a graduate of Terryville High School, class of ‘55. He proudly served our country as an Airman in the US Air Force.  In his youth, John was a member of DeMolay, and as an adult joined the Freemasons and was an active member of the Sphinx Shriners in Newington, where held many positions. His infectious zest for life, card shark skills, and love for his family, faith, and community will never be forgotten. He retired after a 40-year career as a Production Manager in the Aero Space Industry.  John was a devoted, life member of the Terryville Congregational Church where he had been a proud member of the choir and served on numerous committees.

John leaves loving memories as a beloved husband of 61 years to his wife Roberta (Anderson) Layton; and father to his sons Scott (Anne Sofi) of Falun, Sweden, Erik (Teresa) of Bristol, CT, daughter Jill of Simsbury, CT and grandchildren Robin, Amanda, Tyler, Hunter and Parker.  John was predeceased by his parents, J. Wesley and Edna (Duff) Layton, sister Hazel Lepore, and his brothers George and Wesley Layton.

A Celebration of Life, Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 2 PM, at the Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St, Terryville, with military honors to follow. Burial will be private. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com.
