Joan (McCarthy) Przygocki

Joan (McCarthy) Przygocki, 81 of Bristol, wife of Richard Przygocki, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Bristol Hospital with her husband of 55 years and her children by her side. Joan was born March 4, 1943, in Bristol, a daughter of the late J. Howard and Marie (McMahon) McCarthy.

Prior to her retirement, Joan was employed by the Bristol Public Schools, where she taught Spanish for over 30 years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Bristol, where she was baptized and married. Joan loved everything Irish and Spanish, traveling the world many times over with her best friend, Richard. She also loved large, loud family gatherings where you could hear the laughter around the dining room table for hours. More than anything, Joan enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren who were the apple of her Irish eyes. 

Besides her husband, Joan leaves behind her children, Karin Przygocki of Bristol, Michael Przygocki of Plainville, and Marc Przygocki and his wife Kendra of Plainville; her brother Joseph “Bud” McCarthy of Dayton, OH; her sisters, Grace Penikas and Marie “Sis” Larson both of Bristol; her sister-in-law, Janet Przygocki of Bristol; and her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin and Macie. Joan was predeceased by her sisters, Carolyn O'Brien and Patricia Tracy.

Joan’s family caregivers appreciated the meals and laughter shared with other care partners and people living with dementia at Bristol’s Memory Café. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan's name to the Bristol Senior Center Memory Café, 240 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT 06010.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 14 at 11AM at St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen St, Bristol. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior from 10-11AM.
