Irving R. Benson, 89, of Terryville, former Wolcott resident and husband of Doreen (Baker) Benson and the late Ruth "Betty" Benson died Thursday at the Lutheran Home of Southbury.
Irving was born in Waterbury February 18, 1920 and was a son of the late Albert and Hanna Benson. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Thomaston Manufacturing Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Irving was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Waterbury and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Terryville and was a former Little League coach in Wolcott.
Besides his wife he leaves, his sons Russell Benson of Stow, MA, Kenneth Benson of Southbury, George Benson of Newtown, a daughter Lorraine Broadhead of Medford, NY, a stepson Steven Macinaus of Winsted, his grandchildren, Molly, Kate, Paul, Joy, Erik, Cassie and Sara and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday 10:00a.m., at the Lutheran Home of Southbury, 920 Main St., Southbury. Burial will be in Woodtick Cemetery in Wolcott. Friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home 169 Main St., Terryville, Sunday from 6 - 8p.m.
