Helen (Buczek) Makara, 98, of Bristol, former Terryville resident, widow of Richard Ellsworth Makara Sr. passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021, at the age of 98.
She was born in New Milford Connecticut on May 27, 1923 and was the daughter of Thomas and Louise (Bartnicki) Buczek. Helen graduated from New Milford High School in 1941. She met her husband Richard at a wedding, and they were married on August 5, 1945. She was a proud wife, mother, and homemaker. Helen also worked at Seth Thomas Clock in Thomaston, CT. Helen was active in the Terryville/Plymouth Seniors, her local church, St. Casimir’s, the Women’s Guild and Rosary Society, in Terryville, CT. Helen volunteered at the Terryville Food Bank and Lock Museum for years.
She is survived by her son, Thomas and his wife Cynthia of Bristol CT; grandchildren, Dawn M. Switser of Weeki Wachee, FL; Richard “Rick” Makara of Stamford, CT; Heather M. Lessard of Old Greenwich CT; Justin Makara of Manchester, CT; Julie Bloom of FT. Lauderdale By The Sea, FL. and Michael Makara of Bristol, CT. She is survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her oldest son, Richard “Dick” Makara, youngest son, Lloyd D. Makara, by her brothers Joseph, John and Edward Buczek; her sisters Mary Buczek, Genevieve Angelovich, and Cecelia Farrington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM on Monday Sept. 27, 2021, at St. Casimir Church, Terryville. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
