Obituary

Gregory M. Wegh of Farmington, age 71, died peacefully at his home on Monday August 14, 2023.

Greg was born April 25, 1952, in Waterbury CT, the son of Vera (Gabor) Wegh and the late Emery M. Wegh.  Greg grew up in Terryville CT and graduated from Terryville High School.  Greg later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business - Industrial Engineering from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.  Greg greatly enjoyed his work and career opportunities throughout his life. Initially Greg worked alongside his father Emery as Purchasing Manager at Bicron Electronics in Canaan CT.  He then worked for several years as Purchasing Manager at Inertia Dynamics, in Canton CT.  Greg then re-joined his father in starting Bomag Inc in Terryville CT where Greg served as Vice President.  In recent years, Greg has served as the Engineering Manager of Dufrane Technologies in Winsted CT.  All these companies designed and manufactured electromagnetic components including transformers, coils, inductors, reactors, switches, and solenoid valves that are used in the transportation, defense, and electrical power distribution industries.  Greg was integral to the success of all these companies through his vision, ingenuity, and tireless dedication to getting the job done.

Greg is a life-long member of Saint Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church and has served faithfully and contributed significantly as the Church’s Cemetery Sexton for more than 30 years, with his dedicated work at the Cemetery beginning even before he was formally appointed as Sexton.

An Eagle Scout, Greg also served as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 75 in Terryville for over 6 years.  During his time as Scoutmaster, the troop gained significant state-wide notoriety for constructing and displaying a large wood and rope “Monkey Bridge” and an even larger wood and rope suspension bridge at the Terryville Fair as well as other shows and events.  Greg organized and led the Scouts on major trips, such as canoeing down the length of the Connecticut River, and hiking the Appalachian Trail in Maine.  Greg was very generous, kind, and loved to tell a good story which left everyone around him in laughter.

He is survived by his mother, Vera (Gabor) Wegh of Terryville CT, his loving wife of 27 years, Deborah (Sovyrda) Wegh of Farmington CT, a sister Laura and her husband Richard Koski of Terryville CT, a brother Philip Wegh and his wife Nadia of St. Petersburg, Russia, a brother Jason Wegh and his wife Sharon of Barrington IL, and a brother George Wegh and his wife Jennifer of Terryville, CT.  He is survived by son Emery Wegh of Winston-Salem, NC, stepdaughter Nadia and husband Micheal McDonald of Tallahassee FL, stepson Joe Pawelchak, wife Carrie and daughters Lexi and Annie of Centreville, MD, and stepdaughter Larissa Finley and daughter Zoe of Glen Carbon, IL.
