Gary Donald Brown, 71, of Terryville, husband of Debra A. (Reynolds) Brown of 50 years, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, after a brave struggle. He was born June 25, 1953, in New Britain, son of the late Donald and Evelyn (Hyneck) Brown.
Gary went to New Britain Schools growing up. Prior to his retirement, Gary was employed by United Technologies for over 35 years. Upon retirement, he worked at Bristol ARC and leaves behind many friends at BARC, a job he loved.
Gary always had time to be with young people. He coached Terryville Little League, Bristol Special Olympics, and Western CT youth Hockey. He shared his Faith for many years teaching the Conformation class at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. When his children were growing up, his home was the gathering place for children and young adults of all abilities. He was a BINGO caller for the special adults on Friday nights for many years. Helping our community and church was important. He was an election mechanic, ran the grill for the soccer field volunteers and helped rebuild the community garden. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Faith Gardener at St. Thomas Church. He was a recipient of the St. Joseph medal from the Archdiocese. His faith and prayer were so strong even when he was so ill.
An avid gardener, Gary was a member of Whigville Grange #48, and Mt. County Pomona Grange. He loved the weather and did an annual talk on the weather for the Grange. Family and friends always came first. There was no excuse needed to get together at the Browns. His backyard burns and picnics, along with his 15-foot Christmas trees were legendary.
Watching sports was a source of entertainment for Gary. Yankees and Giants, were his favorites, and like most of us, never stopped being a Whalers fan.
We cannot express enough thanks to so many good people at this very sad time. All of our friends who are really family, thank you for your support, your visits and most importantly your prayers. The staff of Smilow Hospital at Yale showed the ultimate in compassion to all of us.
Besides his loving wife, Gary leaves behind his children, Andrea C. Brown and Nathan Brown and his wife Melissa, all of Terryville/Plymouth; his grandchildren, Mitchell Monzon, Kodylynn Perkins (Derek Kunz), Megan (Kevin) Cooke, and Riley Brown; his great grandchild Ezra Kunz; his god children, Bethany Michaud and Keith Joy; and his brother Douglas Brown and his wife Marjorie of Chester, CT.
