Ellen Sylvia (Plumb) Cifone, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in Loganville, GA, at the age of 90 surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Michael S. Cifone. Born on July 6, 1934, in Terryville, CT, Ellen was the daughter of the late George and Norma (Allen) Plumb. She spent much of her life in Terryville, CT, where she raised her family. Ellen was a dedicated nurse at Bristol Hospital for many years before retiring. She was an active member of the Terryville Congregational Church, where she found both community and strength in her faith.
Ellen’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind four children: Michael P. Cifone and his wife Leslie of Woodbury, CT, Paula Cifone of Loganville, GA, Amy Cifone of Plymouth, CT, and Jeffrey Cifone and his wife Sandy of New Port Richey, FL. Ellen was also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Michael, Steven, Erica, Kevin, Kellie, Connor, and William, and four great-grandchildren: Henley, Camden, Carter, and Colton. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Ellen is survived by two brothers-in-law, Allan Greenier of New Haven, CT, and Peter Baldwin of Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ellen was predeceased by three brothers: Wendel Plumb, Gilbert Plumb, and Norman Plumb. A woman of deep faith, Ellen lived her life with compassion, kindness, and an infectious sense of humor. She had a passion for UCONN basketball and was always eager to share in the joy of her team’s victories. She welcomed everyone with open arms, and her warmth and love made those around her feel like family. Ellen was fiercely independent and always the first to offer help to others, but she was equally appreciative of the love and care given to her, especially in her final years. Paula and her granddaughter Erica lovingly cared for her during this time.
A memorial service to celebrate Ellen’s life will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, 11AM at the Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St, Terryville. Donations may be made in her name to the Terryville Congregational Church Book of Remembrance, 233 Main St, Terryville.
