Dorothy S. (Mangini) Micloskey Ives, 98, of Avon, former Terryville resident, wife of the late Edwin R. Ives, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, at Apple Rehab Avon. She was born March 16, 1926, daughter of the late Salvatore and Dorothy (Baltromaitis) Mangini.
Dorothy was a graduate of Watertown High School, Central CT State College, Trinity College and Bridgeport University. Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was employed by the Bristol Public School System as a teacher of English and Drama and she served as Drama director for the Central High Footlighters. Throughout her life Dorothy was involved in and held positions in many clubs and associates; past President of the Gold Star Mothers of Connecticut, past President of the CT Drama Association, past President of the Hartford County Retired Teachers Association, Legislative Committee of the Association of Retired Teachers of CT, founder and first President of the Bristol Area Retired Teachers (BART), docent for the Connecticut Historical Society, docent for the New England Carousel Museum, member and guide for the Terryville Lock Museum, member of the Plymouth Historical Society, served on the Plymouth Bicentennial Committee, charter member of the Terryville Lionesses and Plymouth Lions, former director of the Parks and Recreation in Plymouth, and former member of the Republican Town Committee. Dorothy enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Hidden Golf Bowling Team, a Ladies Golf Team, the Ladies Fun Club, the Hidden Golf Ladies Investment Club and enjoyed the going to the painting class in Winter Haven, FL.
She was also proud that she wrote, illustrated and published the children’s book: Bud and Little Ben; she delivered human eye tissue for the CT Eye Bank for more than 20 years; she was selected by Senator Dodd as a Senior Intern for Washington DC; she taught Sunday School for the First Congregational Church in Plymouth; was a Cub Scout Den Mother in Plymouth; she was selected as Artist of the Month in the Terryville Public Library; started the Ken E. Micloskey Memorial Award with the Main Street Community Foundation; and she was even selected to be a participant in a medical experimental program for a new device for leg-extensions.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Mark Micloskey of MO and David Micloskey and his wife Nancy of Avon; and her granddaughter Meredith Caffa of WI. Besides her husband Edwin, Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband Stanley A. Micloskey, her son Ken E. Micloskey and her sister Marion Dandonoli.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 10 Park St, Plymouth, 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Plymouth.
