Dorel Dawn Simpson, 62, of Bristol, wife of Claire Dickinson, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at home. She was born March 16, 1963, in Waterbury, daughter of Kathleen (Doyle) Simpson of Terryville and the late Terry F. Simpson.
Dorel grew up in Thomaston and graduated from Thomaston High School, class of ’80. She had always wanted to be a paramedic, but an accident took that opportunity from her. Dorel found work at a factory in Bristol, but still felt as if she needed to help others, so she was studying to become a psychologist at Post University and was nearly done with her classes. She and her mom loved to write and write stories together, and she loved all kinds of music. She was a kind person with a beautiful soul. She loved to help anyone she could, she was very open and easy to talk to and non-judgmental, with a huge outreach of friends. She loved all animals but especially her cats and dogs.
Besides her mother Kathleen, and her beloved wife Claire, of almost 15 years, Dorel leaves behind her brothers, Terry R. Simpson and his wife Judy of PA, and Joseph Simpson and his wife Karen of NC; her sisters, Laura Seckington of Terryville and Crystal Doyle of Terryville; her niece Tina Seckington and her partner Jeremiah Williams of Plainville; her nephew Shaun Seckington of Windsor and his daughter Sadie Nicole; her step-sons Johnathan Ayers of FL and Michael Ayers of ME; her mother and father-in-law Mark and Jean Pilletere, her sister-in-law Katy Black and her nieces, Zoey and Ella, all of Berlin. Dorel was predeceased by her father, her grandnephew Dustyn J. Griffin and her brother-in-law Richard Seckington.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to all of her friends that have helped and supported her over the years.
A funeral service will be held 10AM, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the First Congregational Church, 31 Maple St, Bristol. Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St, Terryville, is assisting the family with the arrangements. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
