Catherine (Kay) Wasko, loving and faithful wife of 60 years to James passed away on June 21, 2026. Born in Waterbury, she lived a life defined by devotion to family, faith and community. She was predeceased by her son, James Jr., and her brother William.

Kay graduated from Sacred Heart High School and worked at Jones and Morgan to pay for her bachelors degree at Southern University State College in Education. She taught in numerous schools and continued her educational journey at Southern earning her Masters in special education. She was certificated to teach grades one through 12 and special education grades one through 12.

She dedicated her life to education and taught in many schools in the Waterbury area ultimately retiring after more than twenty years at Terryville high school as a special education teacher. She inspired many young people to overcome any obstacles and succeed. She touched many young people’s lives.

She was a proud and loving mother to Kim and Tanya, their husband‘s Robert Cavoli, and Kerry Biggs, and her six grandchildren, Nicholas, Kylie, Michaela, Ryan, Alexander, and Jack.

She is remembered by her brother John Nicholson and sister Nancy Nicholson Frost and their families which include many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were touched by her generosity and spirit.

Her home was a haven for many filled with warmth, laughter, and always a celebration. Her daughters describe her as the strongest, most intelligent and kind woman that they have ever met. She will be deeply missed. Her legacy lives on through her family and friends.

Kay’s family and close friends will celebrate her life and honor her memory in a celebration service at Saint Casimir‘s Church 17 Allen St Terryville on July 3rd at 9:30 am.
