Carmen Iris Oquendo Soto, 77 of Terryville, widow of Jose Gonzalez, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022, in Bristol Hospital. Carmen was born November 1, 1944, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, daughter to the late Braulio and Josefina (Garcia) Oquendo. She was a member of the Terryville Congregational Church.
Carmen was the oldest of 11 children and served as the mother figure when her mother was ill which was often. She had a very big heart and loved to help others. She was part of a knitting and crocheting group which donated blankets to women and children in the hospital and for the sick and shut in. She crocheted and donated hats and scarves to her sister Norma’s church for their collection for needy families. She always picked up extra items from yard sales because she wanted to be in a position to help anyone in need. There was always a need and she always felt blessed to be able to provide. She was deeply appreciated and loved by family and friends.
Carmen leaves behind her sons, Pablo Gonzalez of Framingham, MA and Jose Manuel Gonzalez of Beacon, NY; her daughter Mary Elena Soto of Terryville, CT; her brothers, Jose Oquendo of Bolton, CT, Edwin Oquendo and William Oquendo both of Vancouver, WA; her sisters, Silvia Dombrauskas of Goodyear, AZ, Marta Sherman of Torrington, CT, Gladys Kwash of Quincy, MA and Carmen Inez Oquendo of Farmington, CT., Norma Oquendo of Eden, NC; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
