It seems fitting that on this past bright Easter morning with her beloved daughter by her side, Carmen Beatrice McCoy joined her Savior Jesus Christ and went home to everlasting peace.
Born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico on February 1, 1952, Carmen was the youngest of four children born to Francisca (Rosado) and Atanasio Otero. After her mother passed away when Carmen was 13, she was lovingly raised by her second mother, the late Angeles (Ramirez) Otero. Carmen was married for 30 years to the late Roy David McCoy. She and her husband were longtime residents of Plymouth, CT. Carmen enjoyed her occupation as a CNA for many years, but anyone who knew her could tell her most favorite jobs were being a wife, mother and grandmother.
After her husband’s passing Carmen discovered an inner strength and determination and began to figure things out on her own in the world she faced without her husband. She quickly became quite capable of running things both inside and outside of the house she so proudly owned for the first time in her life. She was a talented gardener and always had beautiful vegetable patches and flower boxes and pots around her house. She loved being outdoors and seemed most happy with her hands in dirt or with a rake in them. Family meant everything to Carmen and she especially loved to host family get together and holiday meals, happily cooking and feeding the ones she loved the most. Carmen was extremely close with her sisters Rose and Iris and would spend hours on the phone with them every night talking about anything and everything. They were all truly each other’s best friends. Carmen fondly shared memories of coffee klatches with her sisters around a can of Goya crackers or a loaf of warm Spanish bread. The sisters also enjoyed their visits to la officina (the office - aka the casino), where they would cheerfully spend a few hours trying their luck at the slots and then ending their visit with a meal at the buffet. Carmen treasured those sister dates.
Carmen was loved deeply and will be missed by many friends and family members. Celebrating her life is her daughter Iris S. Mccoy (Plymouth, CT) and her granddaughter, Isabel Mccoy, sisters Iris N. Vargas and her husband Jose; Rosbita Maldonado and her husband Bienvenido; and her brother Heriberto Rameriz and his wife Carolyn, all of Bridgeport, CT. She is also survived by son, Eric D. Mccoy and grandson Noah, son, Patrick D. Mccoy, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Eugenio M. Otero of Denver CO.
Relatives and friends may call between 10 and 11:00 A.M. at Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St Terryville CT 06786 prior to a graveside service at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bristol CT. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
