Barbara Ablamsky Obituary

Barbara (Pennell) Ablamsky, 94, of Morris, formerly of Wolcott, widow of Michael (Mickey) Ablamsky Jr, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Wolcott Hall Nursing Center in Torrington. She was born February 13, 1930, in Staten Island, NY, daughter of the late William L. and Marie (Dowd) Pennell.

Barbara attended Leavenworth High School in Waterbury, CT and was co-owner of Ablamsky Fuel Co., Inc. After retirement, she and Mickey moved from Wolcott to Morris in 1988, making “Stillmeadow” their perfect retirement home; the name was inspired by Gladys Taber a well-known dog breeder of champion Cocker Spaniels. To say Barbara was a dog lover was an understatement. Each & every one of her pups gave her purpose. She loved everything about Stillmeadow; it was the place for family gatherings, special holidays, walks at White Memorial, Poppies for ice cream, Bantam Lake for boat rides & the simple pleasures of all the wildlife; birds, bunnies, wild turkeys, deer & even big black bears. You would often see her zipping around the property with her dogs in the golf cart adorned with flags. Barbara & Mickey also enjoyed many motor home trips to Florida, loved vacationing in York Beach and at their cottage in Ogunquit, ME.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Michael Ablamsky Jr, in 1997 and her son-in-law Philip (Sonny) Fontaine in 2005. She is survived by her children, Bonnie Fontaine Lounsbury and her husband Lee of Bangor, ME, Gary Ablamsky and his wife Laurie of Morris, CT, Lori Ablamsky Wheeler and her husband Scott of Plymouth, CT, and John Robert McDowell Ablamsky of Algona, IA; her grandchildren, David Ablamsky and his wife Janine, Rebecca Wheeler Harnish and her husband Brian, Jessica Wheeler, and Melissa Wheeler Reitdyke and her husband Stork (Paul); her great-grandchildren, Kayli Lora Ablamsky, Quinn Patrick, Samantha Lee and Logan Scott Harnish. She also leaves behind her dear and faithful friends, Jack and Antoinetta Paolino and their sons Daniel and Matthew of Thomaston, CT. Besides her husband and son-in-law, Barbara was also predeceased by her siblings, Shirley, Marilen, Bill and Marie.

Services will be private. Burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St, Terryville, is assisting with the arrangements. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
