Audrey Lynne Schipul (Beachert) Obituary
HARWINTON - Audrey Schipul, 77, died at home on Monday, February 26th, surrounded by her family, after an 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Audrey was a beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Audrey was born Audrey Lynne Beachert on May 22nd, 1946, in Bristol, daughter of the late Lindford and Emma (Retz) Beachert.
Audrey taught history at Thomaston High School for 37 years and happened across countless former students with appreciative memories of her teaching throughout her life. She was chosen teacher of the year by the students multiple times. She was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Terryville.
Audrey’s passions were gardening, cross-stitch, and her children and grandchildren. She loved reading, cooking for her family, playing cards, and her golden retriever. She was very proud of her vegetable garden, her blueberry patch, her rhubarb squares, her brownies, her cross-stitched Christmas stockings for all of her children and grandchildren, and her bowling scores. She was devoted to her children and grand-children, and showed up to every birthday, graduation, and celebration that she could from New York City to Long Beach CA. After her retirement, she loved to travel with her husband, making trips to London and Paris, Sedona AZ, Vancouver, national parks, and Hawaii. She loved summer vacation trips with her family to Cape Cod and camping in New Hampshire. Audrey was kind, intelligent, insightful, an excellent listener, and extremely caring. She courageously fought cancer against all odds to get as much time with her family as possible.
She leaves her loving husband of 47 years, Fred Schipul; her son, Erik Schipul, and daughter-in-law, Salwa Schipul, of Long Beach, CA; her daughter, Sarah Swift, and son-in-law, Sam Swift, of Brooklyn, NY; as well as 4 loving grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Cleo, and June.
She also leaves behind her sister, Dorothy Schreiner of Watertown, 3 nieces and nephews, 6 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Beachert.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 2nd, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Terryville. Relatives and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville, is in charge of arrangements. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
