Anna (Christopher) McGrath, 93, of Terryville, widow of John V. McGrath passed away Saturday June 1, 2024, after a short illness.
Anna was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Bristol, CT, and was the youngest of 9 children. She was the daughter of Italian immigrant parents, Guiseppe and Anna (Scarchelli) Cristofaro. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol. Because of her December birthday a tradition of sending her a big poinsetta for her birthday began many years ago by her husband Jack and continued throughout the years by her children.
She is survived by one son, Ozzie Day, daughters, Cindy Day (Kelly Murphy) and Jackie Hardy (Tom Hall). Grandchildren, Carrie, Christopher, Rachel and Michael, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and grand dogs, Stella, Cadia, Doodle and Banks. One brother, “Pep” Cristophero, several nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Laurie Day.
She belonged to numerous clubs and enjoyed being with her family and extended family, especially Flo Lemieux who was her best friend and niece. She was sharp as a tack and if one of her kids needed to be reminded of something, she would be the one they told, and she would be sure to remind them when the time came. She loved summertime the most when she could gather with friends and family outside and especially looked forward to the annual Lemieux family pig roast.
She was the last of the Christopher girls and we know that her sisters, Mary, Izzy and Rosie were there to greet her with open arms when she arrived in heaven. She lived a long and fulfilled life and was able to take part in many, many happy events for her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all. It will be very difficult to not get that daily call from her when she would say, “nothing special, just calling like that to see what you were doing.”
At her request there will be no calling hours and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville is assisting the family with arrangements
