Gerald Joseph Bazinet, 80, husband of Theresa (Ouellette) Bazinet and a longtime resident of the Terryville section of Plymouth, died Wednesday, Jan.14, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford following a two-month battle to recover from the complications of a medical procedure.
"Gerry," as he was known at work and in the community, was employed by the then New Departure-Hyatt division of General Motors in various supervisory and quality control management capacities from 1953 to his retirement in 1985. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1946 to 1951, rising to the rank of Petty Officer Second-Class and serving aboard the U.S.S. Midway.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Gerry was active in Plymouth town government, serving as Civil Defense Director and Chairman of the Plymouth Charter Commission, among other assignments. He was a member of the Plainville AARP chapter and the New Departure Retirees group.
Born in Mount Vernon, NY, May 25, 1928, he was the son of Joseph H. and Delphine (Deranleau) Bazinet. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter, Michael G. Bazinet of Southbury and Shirley A. (Bazinet) Preleski of Burlington; their spouses, Patrice Kennedy-Bazinet and Thomas Preleski; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Preleski and Jessica Preleski.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 9:30a.m from the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville to St. Thomas Church, Thomaston, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 where he was a parishioner. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
