Robert E. Blum, 57, of Thomaston, CT and Eastham, MA died unexpectedly at home on September 13, 2012.

He was the beloved husband of Wendy (Blanchard) Blum. Rob was born in Southington on March 17, 1955, the fourth of six children to the late Claire (Read) and Constant Blum.

Besides his wife of thirty years, Rob is survived by his daughter, Courtney Blair Spector and her husband Steven, and by his son, Eric Read Blum and his significant other Chrissy Gammons. Rob was "Poopa" to his dear grandsons, Ryan Ogren and Noah Spector.

After completing his masters and sixth-year at Southern Connecticut State University, Rob worked for 32 years for the Naugatuck Board of Education as a school social worker where he spent his career helping others find a better path in life. He retired in 2010 to be able to spend more time enjoying his many interests which included traveling, fly fishing, golfing, and playing the guitar; there was never a time in the day where you wouldn't find him singing. He also looked forward to Friday night poker and spending time with his family and friends who he loved and cherished. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed everyday by those whose lives he touched. He truly lived by his motto: "If you aren't having fun, then change what you are doing so that you are doing something fun." He lived his life to the fullest and turned challenging situations and obstacles into positive experiences.

Rob is also survived by his sisters Jeanne Kissane and husband Bob and Connie Girardin as well as his brothers, Mark Blum and wife Nancy, Thomas Blum and Charlie Blum. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 11-2 at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville. All are invited afterward to share in a "Celebration of Life" from 3-6 at Fairview Farm Banquet Hall, Harwinton.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a happy memory, photo or favorite song to share.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The American Heart Association.
