Sophie Barbara Bukowski (Baci’), 100, of Terryville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law having recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.  She was born April 30, 1920 in Terryville, the daughter of Joseph and Franciszka (Grabarek) Stefanski.  Sophie attended Terryville schools and was a lifelong resident.  She was a communicant of St. Casimir’s Church in Terryville.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Eagle Lock in Terryville during WWII and retired from Risdon Manufacturing Co. in Thomaston as a quality control inspector.  She loved working at Risdon, made many life-long friends there and took immense pride in the fact that she drove herself to work during storm Larry in 1978.  Sophie was happiest when at the center of her family’s life.  She loved to be surrounded by a crowd, chatting and telling stories.  She shared her love and generous spirit through cooking, sewing, gardening and other hobbies.  She became known as “Baci Cupcake,” sharing her joy of baking cupcakes, with favorite toppings selected for the birthday recipient and others at the party.  Her love of cooking included traditional Polish dishes which her family will work hard to replicate in her memory.  There was always delicious food to share from her kitchen.  She spent hours sewing Halloween costumes for her grandchildren and they will be worn by the next generation. In later years she enjoyed reading Danielle Steel books and the newspaper.  She will be remembered with love by her three children, Anthony Orsini and his wife Barbara; Frances Konopka and her husband Thomas; and Jean Sekorski and her husband David, all of Terryville.  Six grandchildren: Kellie Hopkins and her husband Richard, and Karen Gensel and her husband Theodore, all of Florida; Philip Batick and his wife May of North Carolina; Lauren Damboragian and her husband Daren of Somers; Douglas Sekorski and Katlyn Draper and her husband Jonathan,  of Terryville.  She also leaves eight great grand-children, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Theresa DeFazzio, sister Helen Witkoski and brother Theodore Stefanski.  Sophie was most recently cared for very affectionately by her caregiver Jodi.  Sophie’s family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to her nurses and aides at Bristol Home Care & Hospice Agency who provided exceptional and compassionate care to Sophie and her family.  Sophie will be remembered by her family, friends, and friends of friends as a loving person, who believed in God, loved her family and was thoughtful and kind.  She will be greatly missed by all.  A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s cemetery with a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to Bristol Home Care & Hospice Agency.  In lieu of flowers, please feel free to plant a flower and think of Sophie each and every time it blooms as she was an avid gardener.  Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville is assisting the family with arrangements. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
