Wendell R. McLam Jr. 81, of Terryville, husband of Marion (Hadley) McLam died Tuesday (October 23, 2012) at Countryside Manor, Bristol.

Wendell was born June 15, 1931 in Groton, Vermont. He was the son of the late Wendell R. McLam Sr. and Stella (Hay) McLam. He was a graduate of Bradford Academy of Vermont where he was an outstanding athlete. He served in the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Wallace Barnes Co and Theis Steel of Bristol. He was a member of the Terryville Congregational Church, the Pequabuck Golf Club, Silver Oaks Club of Florida and the Terryville Fish and Game Club. Wendell was an avid golfer, loved his Red Sox and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Besides his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Heidi McLam of Terryville; his daughter, Cynthia McLam-Beck of Terryville; his brothers, Alan McLam and his wife Louise, James McLam both of Long Island, NY; his two grandchildren, Trisha McLam and Robert McLam Jr. and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother Rev. Gary McLam.

A memorial service will be held Saturday (Oct. 27, 2012) 11:00AM at the Terryville Congregational Church. Burial at a later date will be in Hillside Cemetery, Terryville. There are no calling hours. Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 181 Main St., Terryville or to the Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St., Terryville, CT 06786

I've been around your family for many years and feel I am part of your family.I will remember smiling eyes, his competitiveness, his golf stories, and his sense of humor.
